Water-to-air heat exchangers are commonly used throughout commercial HVAC systems. The amount of fluid flowing through a coil directly influences the temperature exchanged to the air, which ultimately impacts the thermal comfort of those in the space. Both the type and size of piping package components are important to ensure that the overall system is running efficiently and to optimize thermal comfort.

In modern buildings, the heating, cooling, and ventilation systems consume a large portion of the total energy use. The fan column is a vertical fan unit designed to discharge air into a raised access floor plenum. The unit may be likened to an air handler as it mixes filtered, cooled return air with pre-treated outside air typically from a dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) to achieve the design supply air temperature, then discharge the mixed air into the raised access floor plenum.
