What Is a Filter Frame Grille?

Filter frame grilles are an elegant solution for providing filtration on the return-air side of your air distribution system. Return grilles supplied with a filter frame make it easy to access filter media from the room side using face-operable latches.

Filter frame grilles from Price come in a variety of different styles, including egg crate (80FF), louvered face (530FF and 630FF) and perforated face (10FF and 10AFF). The face of the grille is locked in place with two latches, which can be metal or plastic, with threaded and quarter-turn options available. Access to the filter media is achieved by loosening the toolless fasteners on the face of the grille, which allows the face to swing 90 degrees on an integral hinge that is not visible from the room side. Locking clips on the hinge hold the face of the grille securely in place while the filter media is being changed.

Locating filtration at the grille prevents dirt, dust and other unwanted particles from entering the ductwork of the air distribution system, reducing the need for duct cleaning. Being able to access the filter media from the room side simplifies maintenance, providing easy access both to the filter for replacement and to the ductwork behind the filter return grille for inspection and cleaning.

The face of the grille can be completely removed from the frame by sliding the tool-free hinge-locking clips 90 degrees. Removing the face of the grille is helpful when more space is required to reach components within the ductwork. It also makes it convenient to clean the face of the grille, especially when it’s installed in high locations that require a ladder.
