## A Passion for Teaching and Technology

Price’s ever-growing team is made up of extraordinarily talented individuals from different backgrounds. We periodically profile a “[person of Price](https://blog.priceindustries.com/tag/people-of-price)” to give you a glimpse at the person behind all those emails or the voice at the end of the phone! This post: Megan DaCosta.

**![Megan DaCosta](https://blog.priceindustries.com/hs-fs/hubfs/MeganDaCosta_HS.png?width=455&height=455&name=MeganDaCosta_HS.png)**

**Price Industries: What is your current title and role at Price Industries?**

**Megan DaCosta:** I am a Sales Engineer on the US Sales team, supporting our [Central and Texas reps](https://priceindustries.com/find-a-rep/#USmap). My role centers on advocating for our reps and working alongside our Regional Sales Directors and Area Managers to support the day-to-day aspects of rep management.

**PI: How long have you been with Price Industries, and what other roles have you worked in since you started?**

**MD:** I started at Price in 2018 as a summer student with [Antec Controls](https://anteccontrols.com/), then called Price Critical Controls, before joining the GRD application engineering team full time in 2020. During my time with GRD, I provided technical support to our reps, engineers and contractors and was heavily involved in developing [customer-facing software tools and Revit content](https://priceindustries.com/resources/software/).

In 2023, I moved from Winnipeg, MB, to Suwanee, GA, to support the growing number of visits to [Price Technical Center East (PTCE)](https://blog.priceindustries.com/price-technical-center-in-atlanta-ga). My role also took me across our locations in Georgia, Arizona and Manitoba and to many rep offices, where I supported more than 200 training classes, including [Price Engineer Training (PET)](https://priceindustries.com/events/category/engineer-classes/), Price Rep Training (PRT) and contractor-focused training. That was my first introduction to life as a road warrior!

**PI: How did you find yourself in your current area of specialty – was it a lifelong interest and aptitude, or did it evolve later in life?**

**MD:** I’ve always had a natural aptitude for math and science, as do most folks who pursue engineering. But I also loved creative outlets like pottery, drawing and cooking, as well as sports like rugby, dance, volleyball and tae kwon do growing up. Finding a career that could blend technical problem-solving, creativity and movement was a goal of mine, but I wasn’t sure where to look to find it.

Megan played rugby throughout high school and university with her sister, Julia DaCosta, for the Brumbies Rugby Club in Winnipeg

I was also a tutor throughout school, which sparked my passion for teaching. Being involved in the training classes at Price was a great fit – it had me creating new and engaging content and constantly learning about new innovations within the field.

It wasn’t until later that I realized this field was a perfect marriage of both disciplines: taking physical properties from the real world and converting them into signals that can drive automation. That discovery really sparked something for me, and the passion has only grown as new technologies continue to emerge.

**PI: What was the career path that brought you to Price, and what was it about Price that inspired you to join this team?**

**MD:** I graduated from the University of Manitoba with a mechanical engineering degree. I specifically chose mechanical because of its wide range of applications and because for a long while, I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted to go in. I was initially interested in the biomedical field and found my way to Antec due to the connection with hospital and laboratory work. The HVAC industry wasn’t well explored during my university degree, but I became interested in the science, industry and opportunities at Price after my summer internship.

Price is a unique company that is able to maintain that small-company vibe despite being a large global company. Its horizontal structure allows us to feel connected and [seen by the whole team](https://blog.priceindustries.com/the-price-way-team-humility-and-no-ego-culture). Within the sales team, I love the integration of not only engineering but also understanding the people, community and [service-focused](https://blog.priceindustries.com/the-price-way-service) side of the industry.

---
Throughout university, Megan was involved in the UMSAE Formula Electric team, working on the body and suspension team and even competing in Lincoln, NE

**PI: What are some industry developments that you’ve seen in your time within the field that have changed the way you think and work?**

**MD:** One of the most significant shifts I’ve seen has been the integration of digital tools and smart technologies. The transition from AutoCAD to Revit has driven demand for parametric and smart content and has prompted us to constantly update and reimagine how our products interact with design software.

**PI: What is your favorite project you’ve worked on in your time in the industry?**

**MD:** One of my favorite projects has been the [Price Engineer Toolkit](https://blog.priceindustries.com/how-to-schedule-vav-performance), a suite of add-ins for [Excel](https://priceindustries.com/resources/software/engineer-toolkit/#ExcelToolkit) and [Revit](https://priceindustries.com/resources/software/engineer-toolkit/#RevitToolkit) designed to give engineers the right tools for their design workflows.

This marked a new direction for our team as we expanded from rep-focused tools into software for design engineers. We spent several years learning about the engineering community’s workflows and needs to ensure our tools and content supported our customers’ design processes. Partnering with Kevin Lawson from Ripple allowed us to expand into automation and support the next generation of Revit design.

One key takeaway from this was that different workflows call for different tools. That understanding shaped the [Price Engineer Toolkit](https://priceindustries.com/resources/software/engineer-toolkit/): not just one tool, but three, giving engineers more options in their toolbox!

Megan presenting the flow visualization room in PTCE at the inaugural Women in Engineering PET in 2024

**PI: What do you feel is the biggest contribution you have made to the professional community?**

**MD:** The biggest and most fulfilling contribution was my involvement in the Women in Engineering PET class. This incredible event celebrated its third anniversary this year, bringing together women from across the country and across generations to connect through shared experiences. It is energizing to see and hear about the positive changes in the industry while still acknowledging the progress we need to make. I had the honor of hosting our event this year, which included over 60 women engineers and presenters. Next year we’re taking it out to [Arizona](https://blog.priceindustries.com/inside-price-price-technical-center-west), and I cannot wait to see this event continue to grow and evolve!
